What We Do

We help people recover. ODAAT defiines recovery as a change in attitudes, thoughts and behaviors about addiction and its effect on the individual, their family and the community.

We provide housing to suffering individuals. Suffering is indefinable and unspeakable. It is pain that goes beyond experiences and something that must be endured in order to get beyond it.

We offer counseling, testing and referral services for HIV/AIDS. Screening includes rapid testing with results in as little as 20 minutes.

How We Do It

We offer direct services that meet people where they are, helping them recover from addiction and lead self sufficient lives.

We also provide support services that offer tools and resources empowering individuals to take control and transform their lives.

We conduct outreach and education services that heighten awareness and promote risk reduction to decrease the incidents of HIV/AIDS among all populations.

Our Mission

ODAAT is dedicated to serving low-income and homeless men and women and their families in the Philadelphia area who are afïlicted  by addiction and HIV/AIDS. Our focus is on providing peer support and promoting healthy, positive lifestyles. We accomplish our mission through a holistic array of services, including addiction recovery counseling, linkage to health and social services, transitional housing, and community outreach.

Our History

Reverend Henry T. Wells founded ODAAT in 1983 when he invited a recovering couple, then other recovering homeless addicts, to move into his home. Since then, ODAAT has increased its scope and impact to include transitional housing facilities, comprehensive case management services, and services to address the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the addicted community. Today, ODAAT is a program of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, allowing ODAAT to stay true to its grassroots heritage with the administrative stability of a large professional organization.

Our Impact

Since our inception in 1983, we have grown into a program of international stature providing recovery, HIV/AIDS, and homeless shelter services to thousands of residential clients annually. Additionally, our Outreach Teams touch countless lives each year helping to ensure the City of Philadelphia remains a safe haven for suffering individuals. Along with our program partner, HOPE Worldwide, we support a global health outreach initiative and as a result our programs have been replicated worldwide with locations in England, India, Indonesia and Cambodia.
